Is it time for Therapy?

Therapy provides many with emotional relief and allows them to feel empowered and gain clarity on their thoughts and feelings in a comfortable setting. It offers insight and healthy coping mechanisms to help you heal and continue to grow in your future. Yet so many find themselves unsure about starting therapy. So how do you know when it’s time for therapy?

Everyone goes through emotional distress, loneliness, and stress, but if you find yourself having a really hard time coping with them, it might be time to seek some extra help. Here are some feelings that may be worth handling with some extra guidance.

Talking with a therapist may be beneficial in any of these scenarios. Especially if you or your partner are struggling with this daily. When anxiety or depression impacts the quality of your life, it leaves many feeling lost. This can result in not dealing with the stressor at hand, or turning to unhealthy alternatives. Working with a therapist allows you to develop healthy coping mechanisms that can help you deal with your stress, anxiety, and depression without taking it out on others or turning to unhealthy habits.

Finding the right therapist can feel difficult and seem overwhelming, but knowing what to look for will help you find a therapist who would be the best fit for your needs. Here are some things to keep in mind and look for in a potential new therapist.

  • Do they specialize in your area of concern?

  • What type of therapy do they specialize in?

  • What modalities of therapy do they use?

  • Does their style of therapy resonate with you?

  • How does their approach fit your treatment goals?

  • Do you feel comfortable talking to them?

Answering these questions will help you narrow your search to hopefully find a therapist that will be a great fit for you. But know that nothing is a permanent decision. Just because you had one or two sessions with a therapist doesn’t mean you need to stick with them if it doesn’t feel right for you.

If you are interested in scheduling with one of our therapists, give us a call to set up a consultation. We would love to give you a chance to speak with one of our therapists and ask them these questions, so you can decide for yourself if it is the right fit!
