Meet Our Clinicians
Therapy Center of Houston
Ranjana Varghese, LMSW
The stories we tell of ourselves and the themes that pattern our lives are a part of who we are. No matter our individual backgrounds, our stories reiterate the human experiences of loss, joy, dreams. It is vital for us to feel heard; a wise person once said that being witnessed “gives you wings.” I believe that the purpose of therapy is to do just that: for us to feel witnessed, to find our wisdom, and to acknowledge and fully experience our wings.
In any relationship, I believe in showing up and being present authentically. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and social justice-driven. My way of sharing space with each client is with empathetic warmth, cultural humility, and openness. I am invested in helping them arrive at a deeper understanding of themselves and to reach their chosen goals.
I am an LMSW licensed in Texas, supervised by Stephanie Baldwin, LCSW-S. I have an MFA in poetry and fiction from the University of Maryland, a PhD. in literature and creative writing from the University of Houston, and a Master of Social Work from Columbia University. I work with adults and teenagers dealing with myriad experiences, including anxiety, depression, loss, and trauma. I love languages and words and the possibilities of connections. My multiple identities as therapist, poet, teacher, activist, immigrant, mother, partner, daughter, and first-generation American… anchor and inform my therapeutic frameworks, which include Psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mentalization-Based Therapy, ecotherapy, and narrative therapy. Nothing is more important than your story and how you understand it and wish to shape it. It is my privilege to guide, cheer, and support your journey of living it.
